If only - Movie edition

Movies I would have loved if done right, also misunderstood by most!

Love Aaj Kal 2 - While Love Aaj Kal sparked mixed feelings for many, this one was easily hated. But I think Imtiaz did have a logical sequel. It's easy to keep your hopes up when you see a successful loving old couple. Not so easy when you see a beautiful love story go horribly wrong. But we still do hope, as there is no other way. Karthik was full on mimicking Ranbir and Soha had a very flat emotion through out. A little tweak to the plot, sensible editing and better performances, may be I would have loved.

Kondapolam - Storyline is kickass, no doubts. But it keeps you wanting more. Performances were fine and with a director like Krish, you would expect more finesse and originality, especially in music. May be a bit of suspense, elevation to the hero done right, avoiding cliches and ofcourse, real research on civils (Forest service is different from Civil service) would have made this movie lot more interesting.

Daawat e Ishq - Okay, another misfire. Why do people create amazing trailers and music while they spend less on movie screenplay? I was so excited for this one. And the premise did not disappoint for first few minutes. The pace, performances, cinematography were brilliant while dialogues, food, chemistry were bland. You have two great cities of food, movie about a restauranteur and a foodie, why would you spend so less time on food? How can you be lazy on talking about misuse of 498A? Length cant be an excuse since it was just 2 hours. However, Parineeti in the "Jaadu tone waliyan" song is a memorable sight.

Nenokkadine - Can't pick just a single thing wrong with this one. Sukumar is one such director who struggles the most in balancing intelligent plot with commercial elements, Krish is struggling recently a lot with this. One thing I hate about Mahesh Babu movies is the overhype of his looks. But why? Anyways, its a brave plot to pick but lot needs to be in moderation, especially the child's long trip in the climax. Also, why don't we choose one anchor in the movie like either the mental health or sustainability? Is it so hard?

Stretching movie for a pun? (Do patti)

I am genuinely curious now at the content process of Netflix. So this movie just dropped, 'Do Patti' which I would have probably skipped if not for the review by 'Tried & Refused Productions'. However I wouldn't consider this a review as one, I dont have much to say about the movie and two, I have watched 2 hours and 7 minutes movie in 1 hour 10 minutes or so. But I keep wondering if there are some elements of writing that are unique to Netflix like, 1. Rushed creation process: So it is a business, everyone agrees. I have spent considerable time with business writing, either myself or working with other writers. I know the way it works and how it hinders actual process of creation. On top of that, Google and Meta and their antics. From Do Patti I can definitely gather the rush from the wobbly script that was built. A story and script that otherwise could have been a delight. 2. Need for integrating unnecessary stars for the pull: This again derails the writing ...

Movies that surprised me in 2024

So this isn't a list of movies that released in 2024 but its from the movies I watched in 2024. I think 2 years is definitely a golden milestone for new mothers, my viewing list jumped tenfold latter half of last year. 1. Family star - So let me start with this absolute mess of a movie. It surprised the hell out of me because after watching the 2.5 hours of so many faces, locations and songs, I sat and wondered. I wondered if there is a single moment in the movie that can shine. I am not looking for an entire scene, just a shot or may be a small micro expression from an actor or something. Like give me anything. Nope, not a single second of those 157 minutes. How did they manage that colossal waste? It reminded me of this old Telugu movie joke where a reluctant job applicant was asked to spell coffee by the interviewer who already decided to hire him and the applicant answers 'KAUPHY'. The interviewer is stunned to see that he answered in a way that not even one letter is ...

Home Decor Aspirations & More from Vamsi !

Lay back in your seat, close your eyes and think of your first memory of watching a movie in theatre. Was it something of glaring big screen or a quick nap or restlessness to get to dinner? Then don't read anymore. I grew up in the second (may be third) generation of explosion of movie in India and lately I realized it has a distinct impact on my worldview. I lived in the world of those characters on the screen for those 2.5 hours and if one watched a movie with me, you know what I am talking about. Here I am giving love back to movie that taught me, everything. Especially, empathy. Just watched this video of "Ennenno varnalu" from Avunu Valliddaru Ishtapaddaru. What is amazing is how much I remember about the song? Could be partially the TV rights bought by Gemini that made it onscreen almost every weekend or something more aspirational. The head shaking of Kalyani after eating tamarind rice or spitting out pieces of omelette, parrots on the moon, rose in the garden that...
